The Importance Of Clean Extraction Systems

Extraction systems are an essential part of any building fabric, helping to ensure that stringent health and hygiene standards are upheld and the general wellbeing of inhabitants protected - but it’s easy to overlook maintenance and cleaning schedules when you’re so focused on other aspects of running your business.

However, it’s vital that you do make this a priority as you run the risk of invalidating your insurance policy if you’re not careful, not to mention the fact that your premises will start to look dirty and smell unappealing… which will certainly have an impact on both members of staff and members of the general public, putting your business reputation and livelihood at risk.

If you have kitchen extraction systems in place, these will need particular attention as fats, oily deposits and fibrous particles can quickly accumulate.

This in turn creates a breeding ground for bacteria, as well as increasing the risks of fires breaking out… which is why we advocate for a proactive maintenance schedule that includes routine inspections and deep cleans.

Other parts of the building, such as humid environments like the bathroom, will also need a good extraction system in place. These need to be kept clean so that heat and humidity can escape, preventing damp, mould and mildew (all of which are harmful to health), as well as unpleasant smells.

And if you have a laundry on site, it’s vital that you keep the extract system in good working order, as it can quickly become clogged with dust and fibres from clothing, which makes it especially vulnerable to fire.

While you can - and should - clean your equipment regularly yourself, it’s generally advisable to schedule in a deep clean of extraction equipment at least once a year for added peace of mind.
